Looking for performance tips
First post here. I am currently in Iraq and when I return I want to upgrade my truck for better performance and milage. I have a 2000 F-250 Lariat Superduty with a 7.3L DIT 4X4. Everything is stock except the air filter which is a K&N.
Right now I don't really pull anything other than my ATV but soon I will get a toy hauler, at least 19' long. I already have supersprings installed for that.
Anyway, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

We do have a 7.3 diesel section located a little further down the main forum listing. You'll find lots more info there for future questions, or if you want to do some reading to learn more about the engine and what options are available.
First off, I'd recommend you CLOSELY inspect the air intake system on your truck. The K&N doesn't seem to filter too well in front of a turbo charger, and if you have the drop in style, the factory airbox has been known to leak around the K&N. This can dust your turbo, or if you're really unlucky, dust the entire engine.
The superchips, or any off the shelf tuner for that matter, is nothing really special. It will give you a little, but not alot. The first thing you should consider doing (even if you keep the superchips) is installing a set of gauges (boost, EGT, and tranny temp) so you can make sure you don't hurt the engine. Next you'll want to look into a shift kit, and upgraded tranny cooler so you don't blow up your transmission. Then you'll want to address the airflow. A 4" turbo back exhaust coupled with a good intake system should do the trick. Many here run a 6637 filter since it is a lot cheaper than a big fancy cold air intake.
Then you can step up to something like a DP-Tuner, or something from Tony Wildman which will run circles around your Superchips. Both offer several tunes you get to choose from when you order your chip, and a simple flip of the switch, will put you in whatever setting you desire. From economy tunes, to tow tunes, to race tunes. Pick and choose what you want, then be happy with what you have, or in some cases, discover how much more you want, and start looking into the serious upgrades.
A good tune or tuner would be my next investment. After that you need to decide how much performance your after. Just some Trans work to firm everything up, a shift kit and maybe a torque converter. Or bigger turbo, injectors, intercooler, gears, ect.
