Post Weld Racing

I'm hoping someone out there can help, I've contacted Weld Racing several times on the same question, and I don't get a consistent answer.

I have a 2000 F250 Lariat SuperDuty CrewCab. I'm in the process of ordering a set Typhoons from Weld Racing. The rear axle of the truck has a full-floating hub that sticks out just under 4 inches. Can anyone tell me if the optional "conehead" caps from Weld will fit over this hub? Weld Racing says yes, my tire shop says no, but I've seen photos on the web where folks have done this before.

Thanks.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Jun-02 AT 02:42 AM (EST)]Since the Welds are hubcentric, I would imagine that only caps that screw/press on will work, which would include the ones you are referring to. I believe they make one for the rear as well.

I have Weld Outbacks, and the only Weld covers they offer look cheesey, especially when they begin to dull. I don't like the fact that they cover the lugs with a bubble. I just left them off, and put extra long chrome lugnuts on and left the black hubs exposed. It looks mean that way anyway .

I did look at an Excursion today that had Welds with the factory chrome Lariat caps. It looked really good. They wouldn't work with the Outbacks, but I'll look on the Weld site tonight and see which ones they were.

On Edit: The Excursion with the stock Lariat caps had Weld Sidewinders. Looking at the Weld site, though, it seems the Lariat caps would fit the Typhoons as well. XLT caps would work, too, though they would have to be slightly modified.

I've got the Stonecrushers with the conehead caps, and they fit just fine. The hubs on my truck should be the same as yours, and I would think that the Typhoons have the same thickness centers as the Stonecrushers since they are the Super Single (SS) style. Best guess is that Weld is correct. Hope that helps a bit.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Jun-02 AT 03:37 PM (EST)]Weld is right, your tire shop is wrong. I have the conehead caps on my 16.5x14 Sidewinders on my 2001 F250. Take a look in my gallery, you should be able to find a few pics and see. Also, go to this web address:

This FTE member has the conehead caps on typhoons on his SD.
