Hey guys, hoping you can help me out. Im looking for a set of used OEM 16" wheels for my 05 Excursion limousine. I've been reading old posts about the change of suspensions in the 04-05 Superdutys over the past couple days. So after figuring out that the Excursion model didn't change in 05, I assumed my 05 and my 04 would have leaf springs in the front. So I went and had a look to verify this, and to my surprise they both have coils in the front end.
Now unless I dont know what a leaf spring is, I am absolutely baffled why my 04 would have coils as well. So I still don't know what year OEM wheels to buy. Ford makes a certain package for limousines called QVM which basically means its made to be stretched. This may account for increased brake sizes etc. Now I wouldnt be surprised if the 05 had the newer front end, but the 04???
Oh ya, by the way the reason I need them is for the snow coming in my area. My 05 I bought used with a set of aftermarket 22" rims. My 04 has 6 hole OEM 16" wheels.
All 2wd excursions had coils in the front and leaf springs in the rear. All 4wd excursions had leaf springs on all corners. The offset on the factory wheels for the 05+ super duty trucks was also different. all years for the excursion will interchange wheels. to put factory 05 and up super duty wheels on an excursion, you will need a 2" spacer for them to fit. So, you mean the factory limos have bigger brakes than the regular excursions? are they bigger rotors or just a different caliper? please give more info on this? do you have a hard time stopping the big X limo??
Ah, 2WD Excursions..... That makes sense, thanks Racer! I was getting quite frustrated trying to figure this out, never even thought about 2WD/4WD. So I guess any 2000-2004 Superduty/2000-2005 Excursion wheels will fit for me.
As for the brakes, im not sure if these are bigger then the stock Ex's, but I will try to snap a photo when I do the wheel swap. Its not uncommon for a proper coachbuilder to upgrade the brakes on a limousine. We dont have trouble slowing down the beasts.
Wilson, Im not a newbie to forums, but I can't seem to find a way to PM you. Maybe I don't have access yet? I clicked on your name but the option isnt there?
