I'm getting a clunk in my front left, when turing the wheel left going slow. Have had the outer tie rods replaced and now ford mechanic says that lower ***** joints are bad. Ford couldn't do the alignment after replacing tie rods because of lack of the right shims so I took it to a front end alignment shop. The alignment shop still says the ball joints are good. When the ford mechanic inspected the ball joints the vehicle was on the ground and he crawled under it after a drive check. He stated there was "wear indicators" that showed him that the ball joints were bad. I do not know what to look for on the ball joints. I would like to know what these wear indicators look like and how I can check them. The alignment shop says I'm getting jerked around by Ford. But then again the alignment shop has said some strange things too. This is a 1987 Ford Aerostar 2wd V6. I have already replaced the brakes.......I have also found that the spring steel that holds the caliper
in the "up" position is missing (if it ever had one, don't know)on the drivers side and there is one on the passenger side. Would this cause my clunking noise on turns and going slow. My clunk appears to always happen after I have braked possibly during braking and turning the steering wheel left. Like into a parking spot or stop to go around traffic in front of me. I stop for the traffic, turn to my right the proceed forward then turn my wheel left to get back in the original lane and while I'm steering back left the clunk happens. Hope somebody can help.
