Anybody out there convert their 88-91 ford bronco into a solid front axle? I'm thinking about doin it so I could easily and cheaply upgrade lift later. I heard that the front axles off of broncos 78-79 will work. Any input would be appreciated.
I'm actually in the middle of put a D44 from a 79 F150 on my 93 Bronco, so I should be done in a week or two if work gets in the way. I drove a friend who put one on his 95 Explorer and it rode well. So i'm hoping for the same.
Fabritech offers a straight axle conversion kit for IFS '80-'96 Fords, so you might want to look into that. That company just sold their project Bronco which featured their solid front axle kit installed. It was a dark green '94,or '95 Eddie Bauer model. The truck was on e-bay motors a few weeks ago.My guess is it sold,as it was a really sharp-looking Bronco.
i'm in the middle of puting a 76 f-150 dana 44 in my 95 F-150. Its not turning out to be as bad as i had originaly expected. I'm taking pictures along the way and when its done i'll post them somewhere. I'm probably not going to have it done for like a month or so....but when it is i'll let ya all know.
The Fabritech bolt on kit costs $1700. Way too #####ing expensive for a few mounting brackets. If you get the right axle it should involve very little fabrication. My truck is getting a 44 from a 78 next month w/ hopefully 37"s or bigger. What do y'all think would be the biggest I could go and still keep off-road ready and not break a bunch o' #####. Also, gears? Assume 37s...4.88s or 5.13s? I have 3.55s and a 302 right now, what would keep me fast and powerfull w/o sacrificing too much mpg? Thx.
I have a 1989 Bronco with a 1992 F350 Dana 60 front axle(has a 1994 body). I used nearly all stock Ford parts. Had to weld up a couple holes in the front frame rails, cut a notch in the bottom to match the F350/F250 and make a couple 1/2 washers to make it all fit. Much cheaper than the 'kits'.
