99 250 with a v-10 auto 190K. The truck is great but always had a tendency to eat coils and exhaust studs. Now, primarily just on the highway in Od (and just cruising, light on the throttle) the truck stumbles, like a bad coil. If I floor it, it goes away, so it's just at cruising speeds. I checked codes for a bad coil but it does not show any. changed the fuel filter and no luck.
My thoughts are that maybe there is a tranny sensor that may be going bad??
I don't think it's a bad coil as it is just happening at very light throttle and primarily in OD at highway speeds
How are your coil rubber boots? Check for corrosion, if you have bought new coils in the past you should have bought the rubber boots. Inspect them if you haven't already done so.
Does this engine have an EGR valve? Does the stumble occur as you depress the throttle or while cruising under light load?
A stumble or miss can "go away" when the rpms are kicked up a bit, yet still be present. You're just turning more rpms, so it could be easier to be less detectable.
Hard to say what your problem is, I'm no expert on the new V10s, let alone the older ones. Could easily be a bad plug wire, bad plug, MAP sensor or MAF. Not sure if the older V10s used COPs. And I wouldn't know if this engine came with what emissions equipment from that time frame. Could also be a vacuum leak.
Someone should be along who can better assist you.
yea, it was a bad coil, but as always I get one fixed and another one goes bad..... sucks
On my 99, the counter does not show any bad ones, so it's kinda hit or miss. I was lucky that the bad one actually was ripped at the hole where it bolts to the manifold and that was the first one replaced.
i've got another one bad now and will get to it tomorrow as snow is coming
I just replaced the one on #5 cyl today on my 02. Sometime in spring I have exhaust manifold bolts to replace and spark plugs to replace. YIPEEEEEEEEEE
