Hey, I have a 96 F-150 with the 300. It sometimes likes to idle a little rough, more so in hot weather. I was just wondering if this could be because of some cracked booster lines on the throttle body.
the "vacuum hoses" on the throttle body are for gas vapors drawn out of the tank, through the charcoal canister, if they are infact cracked that could cause a leak, Id replace them if necassary, and on the off chance it does fix your problem, great but if it doesnt and I doubt it will, check to see if your getting stored codes that dont trip the CEL. If you see nothing there, do a tune up. The distributor cap/rotor when old, can do funny things with the ford ignition system.
Ok. I just thought of it because it seems to idle really crappy when I take them off so I was just guessing that might be it. However, the check engine light is on but im about 90% sure that is because I have a high flow magnaflow muffler that is screwing with the EGR reading.
Ill try replacing the lines and mabye thatll fix it. Runs great otherwise.
pull your codes, any chain autoparts store should be able to do this for you, free. they used too anyway.
changing a muffler or the entire exhaust system, will not affect your egr in any way, nor initiate a CEL, unless you damage one of the O2 sensors in the process or have a serious leak.
seems you have a real issue somewhere, check the codes and see if it points you in a specific direction.
