My newest truck is a 69 f350. I know that there are/were Ford script beds. I have also seen some on ebay that were dump. However I can not seem to find one close to me to buy on ebay or am having much luck finding one locally. Most of the ford script beds that I have found had wood sub frames and this has made me kind of wonder how ford made them dump? Or was it ford? Does anyone have any information on these? I wanted to put a ford scrip bed on but I want a dump bed as well. So how can i get both?
well, if u really want a dump bed, and also want to keep the factory looking truck, this might be an idea. I saw this on the tv show Trucks, and have been thinking about it for my truck.Pretty cool set up Load Hog Industries: Truck Accessories, Parts, and Bed Systems
Back in 50's Ford was probably still making their own beds(or someone made it with Ford name on it). A stakebed is still a steel frame with wood planks, so making it tilt would not be a big deal. A pivot pin in the rear and a hydraulic cylinder to lift it. Don't know anyone that I could ask for pictures.
I think cbfomoco is talking about the the Ford factory platform/stake bed with the FORD stamped into the rear frame in the script logo. Ford used this same bed in two lengths from the 40s through the 70s. My '70 has this bed, except the F O R & D are not in script.
It was a factory option. The platform/stake trucks are in the Ford dealer books. I would post a link to one, but I think it would get me in trouble over here, so do some google searching for 67-72 ford truck factory literature. The bed is a steel frame with a wood deck. The steel bed frame sits on two timbers that U bolt to the truck frame.
Here's a shot of mine.
I have seen one of these beds on Ebay on a 50s F350 that was fitted with a hoist. I believe that the hoist was added after the truck was built by Ford. It would be pretty easy to replace the wood timber with steel, add a hinge and a hoist, something that is on the to do list for my truck.
Yes those are the type of beds I am talking about. I have seen some on ebay that do dump but have not seen them with the bed up. If i could find the bed I could do a conversion to dump I think with out to much problem.
Yes there was a dump option on these beds. How long it was offered I don't know. I've seen 2. Both were on 61 - 66 trucks. A guy who lives near me has a 64 F350 with one. His dad bought the truck new. It's still working. I'll try to find a pic of it .
Hey Steve, here's the only pic I have. It was taken on the run so it's not good. The guy that owns it does handyman work on the side. Come spring he'll have it out more often.
My cousin in Georgia has one like that. It has the Ford bed, but does not dump.
I don't remember the year. Last time I heard from him, he thinking of selling it. I'd love to add it to my collection, but I don't have the money or the room for it.
