ok, so putting the injectors in bro's truck went well and it drove great for a couple of days, but now all the symptons are back, excessive smoke at start-up and a dead spot above 2200rpms, but I don't know about oil consumption yet. Do I need to re-torque the injector bolt now that the seals have seated?? Just seems odd that it was fine for a couple of days and now it's not
You cannot 'seat' the injector by bolting it down.
You MUST seat it by hand first, then torque the bolt. If you just dropped the injectors in and bolted them in to 120"lbs, then you're in trouble.
You need to fully seat them by hand, tapping them in till you hear them seat, then torque the bolt to 120"lbs. There is no re-torquing, when they're in, they're in.
Let em know your install procedure, and we'll go from there.
here is how we did it,
I pre-lubed the o-rings with assembly lube
on each injector I installed it by hand, then gave it a firm tap with the butt of my hand to make sure it had bottomed out, once we had all f them in I went back with a small hammer and used the handle to check each injector to make sure all of them had seated, then we installed the hold down bolt and torqued it to spec. Plugged it all back up, and starting at the rear of the motor we cranked it until we had oil coming out of the oil galley plugs, finished buttoning it back up and within a few seconds she fired right up. we ran it for about 20 to 25 minutes to make sure everything was fine, and all was well. then after about 3 to 4 days he started noticing more smoke again at start-up and the hesitation about 2200 rpms.
I am going to go and get the truck today and see if I can figure it out while he is on his honeymoon.
Jim, once I get the truck and check it out I will give you a call and see if you can lead me down the right path.
thank you!!

If you give each solenoid a thump with a rubber mallet you can hear the difference between one that's seated and one that's not.
An easy way to check is with a straight edge across the tops of all the solenoids. If one's not all the way in it will become the pivot point.
x2 on mule. You can hear the diff when you tap them.
I used the heal of my hand on all of them till they poppep in place torqued, tapped with mallet and rechecked all torques. Also after starting the truck i rechecked torque before putting vc back on all the way. Three times is over kill but I didnt want to take a chance of having to pull it back apart again
just picked the truck up and got it home, it was plugged up and started just fine with little to no smoke, it does have the stutter at 2300rpm, but I have a spare TPS I am going to through in it and see if it makes any difference, I am wondering if his current problem isn't GPR related, all the GPs ohmed out good and were fairly clean, so I am going to leave it unplugged tonight and see what it does in the morning, He checked the torque on the injectors twice and they were all down even across the head, I am leaning towards him having some separate issues going on, I am going to tinker with it and see what I find.
