Trans Interchangeability?
Hello all.Great site.First time poster here.I have a 95 E-350 w/7.3 PSD and E4OD w/199,XXX miles on her.Anyway my trans quit working in all positions,no movement in any gear at all.I checked fliud,driveline,etc,etc.My question is which year model E4OD's from 7.3 PSD vans will fit in a 95? And is there any tags or codes on trans that identify which trans it is? I've located a good used trans at reasonable price but I can't identify what year trans it is.I'm trying to lowbuck this as funds are getting tight.Any help will greatly appreciated.Thanks and have a great day.Joe

Well, all of the 7.3 PSD autos are pretty much the same. If you don't know if the used unit is the same year, check the wiring harness connector on the transmission case. If the match, its likely the transmissions are the same. When Ford changed the solenoid pack, they changed the connector so you couldn't plug in the wrong one.
The tags on the case won't help you. You could located the part number cast into the case. If they match the transmissions will interchange. The PSD case is unique.

If you haven't gotten this solved yet, drop the pan and make sure that the tranny filter didn't fall off. I just picked up a mint 93' Nite pickup with a "bad tranny" for $200 it had been bought and sold 5 times before me, everyone wimped out when they saw the price tag on an e4od. Bet they'd feel pretty stupid if they knew what an easy fix it turned out to be.
