If its a stock carb, it gets its power (6 volts AC) from the alternator stator. There is a terminal on the back of the alternator that it connects to.
If its an aftermarket carb, it may need full 12V from some hot-when-ignition-is-on source. (Hot on ignition only, not ignition plus accessory).

mine is pluged into a plug at the firewall, although it being 33 years old who knows if it is correct , but it works like a charm. I can't get the photo to upload so it is in my gallery if you would like to look.
