I have just purchased a 63 F-100. My turn signals didnt work but when i bought it i was given a new signal cam. When i replaced the signal cam all the front turn signals/markers do is very dimly flash. the rear lights do not. What have i done and how can i fix this problem?
i agree it sounds as if you have a ground problem. and the other thing you can check all the sockets to make sure they are all clean from crap that builds up over the years .
I just went through the whole electrical journey of non functioning turn signals/tail lights/brake lights. One of my tail lights was nothing but a bad ground, solved by sanding all the contact areas and cleaning them up a little. I replaced the switch in the column, which solved the rest of my turn signal and brake light problems. But before I replaced the switch, I checked to see if I had current to all the different sockets with a test light. I suggest that as a good place to start.
I had this problem once myself a few years back and if you look between your grill and radiator core support you will find two wires coming from your turn signal housing. One wire is the power and the other is a ground, you will see the ground wire is screwed to the core support. This is true for both the left and the right and in my case it was some rust build up behind each of those eyelet connectors and the core support. It is just something worth checking and is real easy to get to.
all good points boys> but if all fails check the source >"steering column-wiring harness" and connections for fault's /one thing leads to another with never ending always bending for these great oldies but goodies hay!
