Just got my 6 speed pulled this morning to replace the clutch. I thought the throw out bearing was bad so I was going to do the whole thing. It turns out the the pilot bearing was bad. The pilot on the main shaft is worn pretty bad. How hard it the main shaft to replace and how bad can it be worn without having to replace it
The main shaft is all one piece. Need to rebuild the tranny to replace it.
However - Just replace the pilot bearing with a Kevlar pilot bushing. Polish the damage on the shaft as best you can with some emory cloth. It will never fail or wear out.
If the input shaft is too badly damaged to use the kevlar bushing there is a input shaft repair kit availible from some of our vendor/sponsers. its a speedisleeve for the shaft and a matching pilot bearing. I installed on the other day and it worked very well. about $70 if memory serves me correctly. not as cheap as a kevlar but much less than a reman tranny. Barney

My next post will be an attempt find a link.
I have a kevlar buching to put it. Any idea how much wear is too much before you would just rebuild instaed of using the kevlar bushing. Also does the kevlar buching need to be lubricated in any way?
Well I put it back together with the Kevlar pilot bushing and the new throw out bearing. Used the same clutch and flywheel. It might be my imagination but it seems to be much smoother on shifts. Mostly on the clutch engagement
