IMPORTANT read if getting leveling coils

2 inches off stock in the front is too much for the factory shocks to handle. i just snapped both my shocks in half going over a bump in the road. luckily i have new shocks made for a 4inch lift that i have not yet put on. so when you get leveling coils longer shocks are a must for safety reasons.

Man you are running into problems huh. I've never heard anyone have problems with a leveling kit like you have! Are the shocks you had stock? If they were replaced, maybe they were a little shorter than the originals?

Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster American Thunder Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .

Check out my Gallery for a look-see.

Then theres:
99' Mustang GT 4.6L
88' F-250 Superduty 4x4 351/c6
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 with a
3 spd column shifter. Top speed is 65mph, Go Baby Go!

IMPORTANT read if getting leveling coils

I think rbrendel is right. Based on my measurements of my Pro Comp 9000 (trash) shocks, and my old Ford ones, I think i would actually have had less than 2 inches to play with for a lift.

My plan, if going for a full 2 inches of lift, was to first try additional shock tower bushings between the shock and the spring/shock bracket. This would push the operating range back a little bit (what's the width of a shock bushing, about 1/2 to 3/4"?), but it would be far from ideal for full travel.

But I think anyone planning on going for leveling coils ought to plan on buying longer shocks.

Thats interesting. I've seen some trucks go down the road that the rear shocks needed to be replaced and the axle is just bouncing up and down constantly but the truck isn't.

you know what justin, i just looked in your gallery at your stock 2wd, your stock 2wd had about a 3 inch drop compared to the back of my 2wd. i looked at my truck with the 3inch blocks in the front, they werent in the back yet. and the back was even. my truck is really weird. that means the back of my truck is still about 2 or 3 inches higher even with the leveling coils which means it was about 5 inches higher than the front before the lift. which also means after im done with my lift i will have 6.5 to 7 inches in lift off the front stock. 3 inch lift for the back, 6.5 inch lift in the front. wow that is kind of weird isnt it?

I really don't understand what you mean. Blocks in the front? So you're saying the back of your truck is 3" higher than my old one? How can you tell it's only a picture.

IMPORTANT read if getting leveling coils

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Jul-02 AT 10:26 PM (EST)]body lift blocks, you know when the front of the truck was done, the back of the truck wasnt. the front of the truck was lifted up 3 inches and was completely even with the back. i didnt mean confuse you, i looked at the wheel well space on your 235/75/r15's, i think thats what they came with stock, and then on my truck i had alot more wheel well space in the back. if the front of your truck was only 2 inches lower than the back ,(thats what it looks like) than 2 inch leveling coils would prob level it out. i said 3 inches because around 3 (or 2.5) inches off your old truck stock would prob be how high mine was before my lift, you get what i mean? so to clear up it up a little, my theory is that, my truck stock, had a 2 or 3 inch lift over the back of your old truck stock.

Well, I'll second what rbrendel said - I put 2" coils on the front of my Bronco, and the shocks were limiting the coils - fully extended.

I thought I'd be smart and go buy some Rancho RSXs for a 4" lift, figuring that there'd be enough compression room for a 2" spring and room to grow if I decide to splurge on a 4" kit.

Well now I have the opposite problem - the 4" longer shocks are so compressed, I only have about another inch of compression room. So back to the 4WPW to exchange the 4"ers for 2" lift shocks... Not to mention there's a serious problem with the RSXs top post/nut interface - waaaaay too difficult to thread on.

My Delaer only sells a 5000 for a 1"-4" Lift. Would these be what you had SkyKing?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Aug-02 AT 07:20 PM (EST)]Nope, got the RSX's, specifically for a 4" lift. They're too long to use with 2" coils - wish the guy at 4WPW would have told me that when I asked him. Instead, "yeah, should fit." Dumba$$. I think I'm going to just go with a pair of cheapo ProComp 3000's until I make my ultimate decision about the lift (stay with 2" or go with 4-6").
