I already started a thread on this on the 94-97 forum but havent gotten many responses https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...cylinders.html , but I'm working on a '97 that cylinders 3 and 7 are real quiet on the buzz test. I just put new UVC harnesses and a gasket on it. I checked the resistance of the wires between the IDM and those two cylinders and they both checked out at .5 and .6 ohms. Is this too high? if the wiring is checking out ok and they're still quiet does that mean that the injector is bad? Could I take the valve cover off again and switch the wires from 5 to7 and 1 to 3 and see if the quiet buzz follows the wires or stays with the suspect injectors? Thanks
Swapping the wires would help determine if it was in the wiring or the injector itself. I would try that. Did you ohm the suspect injectors? I do know what is the resistance of the solenoid, but you could compare it to the known "good ones". You could try that thru the VC plug without removing the VC first.
I did just check the resistance of the solenoid on number 3 I got 2.5 ohms between the injector terminal and the middle common terminal. Cylinder one which seems to buzz test fine is 2.6 ohms
Just did cylinder contribution test only thing that happened is once i initiate the test the truck almost dies and code p0196 pops in the test window for engine oil temp sensor range/performance but that code doesnt show up in the regular DTC window in AE
Did you run the contribution test with the engine warmed up? I think the oil temp is supposed to be above 160 or 170 to do the contribution test.
Did you ever try and swap the injector wires to see if the weak buzz stayed in the same spot? The readings I've gotten on our super duty's have been around 3.6 ohms on the injectors, and I learned that a reading of 2.9 ohms when everything else is at 3.6 can signal a bad injector solenoid.
If you do the buzz test 7 or 8 times in a row, do the quiet 2 cylinders get louder after repeated buzz cycles?
Yeah I guess the truck wasnt warmed up when I did the contribution test. I'll do that again tomorrow. I've done the buzz test about 5 or 6 times in a row and the buzzes stay the same. Is there enough slack in the UVC harness to swap the plugs around? It's probly gonna be sunday afternoon or monday before I have time to get the valve cover off again
There are little wire ties that hold the wires together, but if you remove those and hold your mouth just right, it may just work. Swapping the #1 & #3 wires should be a piece of cake. I don't know about trying to get the #5 wire to #7, but if you check the front cylinders with the buzz test, it should give you an idea about #7 also.
Well I switched the wires around and the quiet buzz stays with the suspect injector, so I guess I've got 2 bad injectors. I'm not gonna mess with switching the solenoids around because the whole injector is under warranty
