I have a 99' Powerstroke, and am having a problem where about every 60 or 70 miles (est.), the check engine light comes on and the engine goes into a "limp mode" of barely running. I stop the truck, kill and restart it, and then it does fine for another 60 or 70 miles. I changed the fuel filter a couple of months ago before and put several hundred miles on it before this problem appeared.

Thank You
If you can ,get the code read ,,,most likely 1316 ,,,
May be as simple as an Under valve cover harnes has come loose
When its running poorly ,,unplug the wiring to the valve covers one side at a time ,,one side won't make a difference in the way it runs ,,that is the bad side..
Yes, like Barry said. Pull codes. That's what the SES light is for. Doesn't sound like a typical CPS problem. Usually they shut down the engine as if you turn the key off. However, stranger things do happen.
Like Chris said, don't really sound like a CPS issue, but those new gray ones have been making for some weird problems. You could swap out your new one for the old and see if that helps. Post your location and there may be someone near with a reader.

Finally got the truck in and sure enough, code 1316 came up. It turned out to be a leaking gasket which caused the PCM jack to become fouled. Replaced gasket and problem went away.
