Hi guys my rear spring hanger that is riveted to the frame on the right front spring is loose. It seems that the rivets have given way a little from long years of worn out spring pins or just time. I just got all new spring pins in yesterday from LMC and tried one in the hanger and it fit fairly snug so i dont really have any play there. Should i just weld the hanger to the frame there to stabilize it or drill out the rivets and try to bolt it in place or look for a new hanger. My concern with getting a new hanger is that it could be that the holes in my frame there may be wallowed out or something. all i know right now is that i have about a quarter inch of play from grabbing it and rockin it around with no spring weight on it. I have also heard the aftermarket hangers sometimes dont fit properly causing you to have to slot holes and such. Advice?
dawolverine nailed it. Just replace the rivets with bolts and torque them well.
BTW, If you have one, you'll find an air hammer is just the tool to remove those rivets. I prefer to cut an "X" in the head with my cutoff wheel, then shear the head off from the side with an air hammer and chisel tip. Then punch out the rivet stem using the air hammer and a punch-style tip. Goes very quickly.
rivets to bolts...that's what i did...i also, raised the front braket in the rear leafs level to the frame rail...it will give you a 2" lower ride in the rear
