an X will quieten your exhaust noticably.

I had true duals, no cats with turbo mufflers off dual headers, just to mix it up, I added the X pipe. When I first picked the truck up from the exh man, it was so quiet as compared to what I was used too, I had to rev the engine to make sure it was running.

I havent done an H but its my understanding it doesnt quieten the note as much but will mellow the tone slightly.

you wont see a major power gain either way, as you might with a v8, has to do with a balanced (I6) and unbalanced (v6/v8) exhaust by design, and why the crossover pipe can or cant affect power.

Do a before and after vidoe and stick it in the sticky, someone might find the info useful.

From my understanding, an x or h pipe is used on v8's because in either bank of the engine, there are 2 cylinders firing within 90 degrees of one another, creating a lot of pressure in the exhaust of that bank of the engine. The crossover pipe allows some of this excess pressure to be vented into the other bank's exhaust pipe, which decreases backpressure, and in turn increases horsepower. I doubt adding a x pipe to a 300 will give you any power gains-especially cause these motors aren't designed for high horsepower. If I were you, I'd run all 6 cylinders thru one pipe, because that would increase the scavenging effect, and increase your torque, which you can actually use.

Just my .02.
