Help!

Been awhile,

Hope everyone is good. Been awhile for me. Short story. 68 with 390--well built--explained if needed--C6, power brakes, power steering, rebuilt front end, and AC.

Problem....Rust. My 68 is rusting away. i haven't had the chance to paint and repair. repair cost is an issue. I have chance to buy a 77 with a straight body and no rust. It has a 302 and c4. I want to swap my current 390 and c6. I also want to swap my front end which is completely rebuilt ,..king pins and all. My question is.. will have the ability to do this. I know the 77 F100 didn't have the FE option. Did the frame have the FE perch holes? PS holes? front end swap issues? Any problems here?

Please advise,

Thanks,

Ken

You will be fine. Just do not sell your 68 before you are finished with the 77.
The only issue I can think of might be your holes for the engine towers but I'm 80% sure your 390 towers will fit fine.

If you have drum brakes on your rebuilt front end you might need your brake line frame brackets from your 68 as the disc brake line brackets stick out wider on your 77.

You might need to work your gas pedal linkage on the side of your carb, but maybe not.

Power steering holes on frame, no change 68 - 77.

Swap the entire axles so you don't get into king pin issues and again, no problem 68 - 77. The only front axle issues I can think of are the coil springs. Your 390 is heavier than your 302 and I have not used 68 coils in a 77 front spring saddle before so I just don't know 100% but I think you will be fine.

If your 77 does not have power brakes you might need to find one with the 77 brake booster assembly intact. I don't think the 68 brake booster fits on the 77 cab but I could be wrong there, again I have not tried it before.

But overall, if you save your 68 for donor parts till your done, the vast majority of these parts will swap in perfectly.

Thanks Mike,

My main concern was the perch holes. The 77 only offered the 390 in the 250 I think??? Frame probably has the holes but??. SB palin jane...anyone know? Certainly has three different holes for the different combinations at the tranny support. I used 73 390 springs in my 68 without much issue? 73 to 77 different? I have factory AC as well.

I already used a 73 donor 8 years ago for my 68. Power brakes, discs, and steering were put in. Been there done that and should be albe to do it in a weekend. Runs great and I like the look but rust is killing me. Box cab and all.

Thanks for the reply,

PS: should have a nice 68 donor with power stuff and desirable steering column?
