Instrument cluster upgrade
I have a 1998 F-150, 4.2L, 5-speed. I would like to get a factory instrument cluster with the tachometer. I was wondering if anyone might know if the wiring harness is the same for both applications, and hopefully the plug or plugs I need are behind the dash. It seems that it would be more economically feasible to have one generic cable for all applications, then simply use the plugs necessary for a particular application. Anyway, If anyone could shed some light on this I would be most appreciative. Great website. I have gotten a lot of useful information from all of you. Thanks

Have you tried looking in a Hayne's manual at the local auto-parts store? I know that this won't give the detail needed for this type of work, but the wiring diagram would show two wiring schemes if they were different and only one if they are the same.
