New noise
FWIW, I started noticing the noise after I replaced the rear pads.... doesn't seems like it could be from that but who knows....anyone have any experience with anything like this?
Thanx...
Very likely tied to the rear pads...but by chance have you engaged 4 wheel drive recently? I ask because last winter when I engaged mine and disengaged it one hub I suspect did not completely unlock. As I drove...I had the sound you described...I ended up re-engaging 4 wheel drive...driving a little bit...disengaging it while rolling forward...then stopped and backed up about 20' (an old trick I used to have to do with my 92 Exploders hubs)...it seemed to clear the sound and the other times I engaged 4 wheel last winter it did not repeat itself...Just a thought...but again...you may have the E brake needing adjustment or a slide pin needing lubed as you suspect.
Good luck...keep us informed.
Joe.
I looked on the internet for this problem and here is what I found.
These trucks have very small shoes inside the hub of the rear rotors for the emergency brake. These were viberating due to dust and rust sending the noise down the emergency brake cable to the cowl section of the truck. This is a common problem on some of these trucks.
So taking this into account, I would suspect you noise is comming from the rear brakes and the noise is being sent down to the front via the emergency brake cable.
You may get someone with a little knowledge ride in the second row seat with the window down to verfiy the fact if noise is comming from the rear.
