How do I test an original 6v temp guage?

Yep you were right in principle and we knew what you meant. It should go to cold if shorted cause with power interuption (either the key is off or the overheat sensor opens) it goes to full hot - the default (worst case) position!

It's so confusing.

Get a 12v-6v in-line resistor/converter. They are small and don’t cost much. You gushed sounds like it’s wired wrong or defective. The converters are nice and small and Allie you to use the 6v Gauge on a 12v system.

Hey Tony, ... just in case you don't see a reply to your post, ... it is because this thread is 10 years old, ... it is so old that Julie has had a sex change operation in the meanwhile .
