I have to get the engine (4.6) out of my 2004 super cab, can anyone offer advise as to the best way of doing it, after a rebulid the engine will be going backm into the same truck.
Is it cab off unbolt and lift away or ?
pull the engine like you would any other big vehicle.
take apart the front clip so only the fenders are left. then disconnect the engine AND tranny. Pull them both as a combo. It'll make it easier to yank and stuff with the tranny still connected.
I've heard of people yanking the cab, but that just sounds like a major PITA for nothing truly gained IMO. Your 4.6 isn't that big size wise. You should see how much a 5.4 fills the engine bay. Barely the space for my hand to fit between some things in there
I did ask a similar questiona few weeks ago on the engine forum of FTE, the reply I had is the engine and tranny will not come out as a one piece unit ?
We pull engines at the dealership, and the only ones we pull the cabs on are the 6.0L and 6.4L diesels. I've pulled 5.4L 3v engines through the hood, and other guys have pulled yours through the hood as well. Just unbolt the tranny and pull the engine like any other engine..... You will need the intake off(basically down to bare block and heads).
