I have an 05 F350 DRW 4x4. Last week, I was backing my truck up in 4 wheel drive high on my property. I cranked the wheel hard left and got a loud clunk. I didnt think much of it. I shifted out of 4 wheel when I was done and off I went. Since then, I notice a little clunk when I turn. I especially notice it when I am turning into a drive way or turning over uneven pavement. It does not happen all the time, but often. It is not real loud but I can feel it in the floor board and hear it when it happens. I went to my mechanic and he looked for some time. He had me turn the wheel slowly to the right then back left over and over while the truck was idling. It would make the clunk noise in both directions, but not always. He checked the ball joints, examined the steering box, the track bar etc. He thought the noise may have been coming from the ty rod end at the pitman arm? He wasnt sure. He tried to describe it like it was popping out of joint...
Has anyone had a similar problem with their truck? PLease help. The truck is sold and being picked up this weekend. I just want to make sure it is in perfect working condition for the new owner. Thanks for any advice.
I had a clunk that could be felt in the floor board and it turned out to be the sway bar end link bushings. Its easy to check. Just unbolt the sway bar from the axle and move it around. If the bushings are shot you will be able to move the sway bar around easily. If they are shot type energy suspensions into google. They have the best bushings. You will have to take the end links to a garage and have the old bushings pressed out.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion...that was a problem previously for me(among others). This time, it appears as if I am going to need new bearing assemblies for my front end. What a nightmare this truck has been. Thankfully, I sold it friday!!! Of course, I ordered the parts and am having it fixed for the new owner. SO long Ford. Thanks very much for your reply.
