Installing a Holley Pro-Jection

I have dual tanks and Holley says I need thier Dual tank kit but I dont see Why. I cant see why the pump cant be ahead of a Return style selector valve, Does anyone know if there is a reason? Only thing I can guess is the pump wont wanna suck that far (Rear tank) Can Any of you guys running the Pro-Jection give me any pointers?
Thanks in advance

I installed EFI on my 77 with dual tanks and Holley is correct. The problem with EFI is the higher pressure required to make things happen. I installed a single electric pump and a return style selector valve in front of my forward fuel tank, as low on the frame as possible. Worked OK until the first time I let a tank run out before switching to the other tank. Once you get air into the fuel lines you're on the side of the road bleeding the air out until you get good fuel pressure again. NOT FUN! I played around with different ideas until I finally installed later model tanks(bigger openings for pump/sender) and 1990 electric pumps. Problem there is the level sending units won't communicate with my gauge. Fix was to install aftermarket floats. I love my Mass Flo EFI system but the plumbing was a pain in the butt.

Electric fuel pumps are much better at pushing than at pulling. So you want the pump as close to the tank as possible. I assume that the run from the pump to the rear tanks is too far for reliable operation of the pump, plus the problem of stalling on the side of the road id you run the front tank out of gas (like the above poster.)

I kinda understand that but in the Power Stroke diesel world the OEM electric pump will run both tanks and run High Pressure all day long and pick it up if it runs out. The pump that came with my Pro-Jection is a Walbro and we also use those for Diesel pumps, Im wondering if I just use a 94to97 Ford Power Stroke fuel selector valve and the Walbro Pump if I will be ok?

I doubt too many people in this forum can help. Maybe check the fuel systems forum. For my opinion I would just tee the two tanks together and make one big tank. That way you dont run one dry and have the pump suck air while you switch tanks.
