My new job requires that I drive 43 miles each way to work.... The 2000 F-150 Lariat is a trooper but it's gettin old and the 16MPG was killing me when gas was near 5 bucks.
My Father-in-law is loaded and was kind enough without asking to buy us a 2009 Honda FIT for my travels. It's averaging about 32MPG..... and fills up at 9 gallons...... I'm blessed to have the gift, but you never saw anything as stupid as my big-a$$ed blue collar body behind the wheel. The wife took photos to send to my friends.......
So I decide to check out the various Honda forums to see if there are tricks and mods that can improve mileage / performance like any gear-head would do......
It was a place a senior hot rodder should not go........ I had to shower and get back into the FTE Forum as soon as possible........ Forgive me for I have sinned.....
The "tooner" forums are a very different world. No rules about language, lots of chest-thumping (with nothing to back it up), precious little knowledge, complete overuse of the word "dude"... Have an Adult Beverage, it will bring you back to the light!
It's times like this that we all have to remember just how lucky we truly are!
Perhaps as the pennance for your sins, you could post one of those pictures your wife took to send to friends (we're your friends too, right). I'm sure that would remind all of US, just how lucky WE are - tee hee!
Well, they say Step one is admitting you have a problem. Ok, check, you did that.
I drive alot for my job (35k to 40K a year) I'm lucky in that my company provides the vehicle (a 2005 F-150 in this case) with all the maintenance and fuel. If it weren't for that I'd probably have to ride my motorcylce to get the mileage.
Let see the pic. We won't laug.....who the heck am I kidding? we will laugh like there's no tomorrow! But we will be laughing with you not at........I'm sorry, I couldn't even keep a straigh face on that one....we will be laughing at you.
eman, you must of known that telling a story like that plus letting us know that your wife took pictures.....you're gonna have to post 'em before anyone lets this one go......It'll only hurt for a little while......
As for improving the fuel economy and horsepower here is a write up for you in exchange for the pictures....
I feel your pain. I drive a Ford Probe to and from work, which I took off my daughter's hands when she wanted to buy apickup. I'll occasionally jump onto a Probe forum to get info on maintenance, and what a waste of time that is. If all I wanted to know about was coilovers, fart cans, carbon fiber shifters, and cold air intakes, I'd sure know where to go.
Oh, yeah. You'd better be proficient at text message shorthand. No English spoken here.
LOL.....Those pics would be very blackmailish for the wife---so you better be good.
I have some friends that are in their 20s-30s and still act like their cars are ALL THAT--and I say---haha!! AND They act like they know everything, and are sorry for nothing ever. One day they will realize all the money they sunk into the tuner of theirs could have bought them something that would be worth what they invested....like old muscle does. Sure they can make that plastic run fast---but it aint worth what old muscle cars and ole trucks can be worth with the same investment.....Bill
It is absolute gospel on most of those sites that a CAI (cold air intake) is worth 25 HP on any car ever made. I guess that means my flattie is now 125 HP?! Yeehah!
