i have been trying to figure out if a dana 80 from an 02 will fit my 05. i know the dually bolt patterns were changed. but are the housings the same, other than the shock mounts? could i simply swap out the hubs for 05 and later units. i have checked y2kfordparts, but havent found any indication of whether or not this would work (part numbers, etc.). also, on the y2kfordparts page, is the 10.50 ring gear the stearling axle and the 11.25 the dana 80?thanks for the help
I truly think the only way you're going to find out is get a tape measure and start measuing units in the junkyard.
Or, call a junkyard and see what their books/computers say - they usually can tell if a certain year is going to fit another year.
For a Ford parts guy, or even a tech, to figure out if the housings are the same, is probably almost impossible. They probably don't list just the housing, but they would list the entire unit end-to-end which would include parts that are different between the years, so they are going to come up with different part numbers from the get-go.
