I have 16.5 in wheels on my 79. Should i stick with the 16.5 or drop down to a lower size? I heard alot of bad stuff about the 16.5. Which size should i go with?
what kind of driving are you going to be doing? what size/ type tire are you going to be running?
if you are going to be doing alot of driving at low air pressure (below 14 psi or so) then the 16.5's might be a worry since there is no bead on the wheel to hold the tire on, but other wise they will be fine
you get a much larger selection of large aggresive tires with the 16.5's.....
I'm not really an expert on 4x4 add-on's ... but I have been told you can shave down the front calipers and use 15" wheels for diggin(was told you can buy 15" wheels that are 8 bolt).
Reason I was told is 15" wheels have a bead lock inside the wheel that helps hold onto the tire better, 16 and 16.5 wheels do not ... lowers your chance of a blow out .....

Yes you can ( I did ) but it requires alot of creativity w/ the grinder to make em' fit.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Sep-02 AT 09:01 AM (EST)]I ran 15 inch 8 lug wheels for a shot time. You have to grind down the calipers to do so, puts and lot more load on the wheel bearings with that big of an offset. You will be better off with 16 or 16.5
