voltage gauge?

ive noticed my voltage gauge on my 97 is staying down on the low side, when i first start it its at almost nothing on the gauge and after a few mins of driving it creeps up a lil past the 8. ive checked the battery while running and off and at running i get a solid 13.5-14.0 volts, this is with a/c and headlites on, and off im getting 12ish volts direct at the battery, possible the gauge is just going bad? were does the stock gauge get its signal from?

The signal comes from the computer. If all other gauges are working correctly the computer is likely okay, you could simply have a bad connection or a bad gauge.
