brake master cylinder question

87 f-150, short bed, two wheel drive, 300-6. Looks like i am about in need of a master cylinder. It is getting progressively worse. Any way, i look them up and see there are two, before 4/87, and after 4/87. What is the difference? And why is the before a whole lot more expensive? Figures because i need the before. So anybody know the difference? And why the earlier is more expensive?

Later!! chris

One has a proportioning valve sticking out the side. 1 dinosar closer to extinction than the other, so it's bones are worth more. Napa!

The piston bore is larger in the later version. I have a 4/87 truck and installed an after 4/87 master cylinder without any problems. As far as I know I had the small bore cylinder from the factory, but I didn't measure it to find out for sure. The only issue you may have with a larger bore master cylinder is slightly higher pedal effort is required for equal stopping power.
