I Should Know-Glow Plug Relay Question

Changed the fuel filter. Dropped some diesel on the GPR post. Of course it smoked when I started it. I shut it down, removed cables and cleaned it. Doesnt smoke any more but dang it sure does get hot. I never touched the relay before (on purpose) to see if it was hot. Does the GPR get hot after starting and cool back down after it has been running?
