I have a 4.2L 99 F-150 and I replaced my trucks belt last weekend. Put in one of those Goodyear Gatorback's and ever since my truck has a whistling noise when I accelerate. Reminds me a lot of the sound that a deisel makes.
Have you guys ever heard of or had this problem before?
A Gatorback is a serp. belt made by Goodyear. It is one of the best belts you can buy.
To the OP's question, when I replaced the belt on my moms Escape(Dayton belt) it would make a whistling noise kind of like a turbo.
I just tell people that I installed a small turbo on it .
Thanks for the responses I got on that. All of a sudden I don't hear that sound anymore, it did sound like a small turbo though, right on Bobby, lol. All of a sudden the noise is no longer there. I checked around the engine found nothing wrong, don't have a clue what it was now.
Was it cold out? Many people (myself included) pick up a really annoying whistle when it is cold. It varies with engine RPM, not wheel speed. Some have cleaned the IAC valve. Others have replaced the alternator. It's a relatively common phenomenon. I haven't tracked mine down yet, doesn't seem to hurt anything and only happens during certain atmospheric conditions when it's really cold.
