Lookin good man how much lift is that and what size tires? Heres mine factory lift and 285/75/R16's. Ive been thinking about lifting it but I'm still undecided. Did it hurt your mileage? What engine is in yours? My 460 is thirsty enough already.
It has a factory installed after market add a leaf in front and 3inch blocks in the back. I said something on here before about the factory lift and somebody said they have never heard of the factory lifting a truck, well its on the build sheet. I am probably going to remove it, It is to bouncy. The tires I have on it now are 265/75/16, It had 295/75/16 ( a more agresive all terraine tire and man it rode/drove like crap, it was hell to try and get it up to 70 on the freeway. I sold those and put on these 265 and man waht a difference. Gas milage was a whol;e lot better, of course it was TERRIBLE before, I guess now its just bad. The motor is a 351w/5.8. its got 178,000 on the ODO. but runs great. I think I need to replace the EGR though, I get a slight valve clatter on excelleration. I love this truck, I had a 91 F250 4x4 Diesel and traded it to this friend that owned this. He gave the truck to his son and he really wanted a diesel. Well the 91 only had 140k on the ODO and I had to do some minor work to this truck, but I think it was a good trade.
jeff dodson, i just put add a leaf in my truck, yours has the split front end right? i was wondering if you had to get it aligned or if the leaves settle enough that its close enough. mine is a 2" lift, whats yours.
it is a 2"? good, i assume you dont have alignment issues. at least not right now. several people told me that you couldnt align the split front ends over 1.5". but several people also told me that there was no problems at all. so i was just wondering about yours cause it has the same motor and front end and lift height as mine.
Rough and bouncy? To me that sounds like tired shocks. The spring rates are high enough in those trucks that they mask alot, including tuckered shocks. A set of good aftermarket shocks (particularly ones for a mild lift) would make a world of difference in the way the truck drives.
Monroes are good shocks, in a generic cheapie sorta way. Personally, I would go with some seemingly heavier duty shocks than you think you need. Bigger shocks, better valving, more dampening will not harshen the ride, it actually helps it. Kinda stinks that you just bought em, but........
Jeff, You said it was hell to try and get it up to 70 on the freeway. Is this because it doesnt have enough power? What gear ratio do you have? I am asking because I am looking at the same truck with the 5.8 and I think I want to put a lift and 35's on it. Do you think this truck is underpowered? Do you pull anything?
Its not under-powered, I mean with the 295's on it handeled so terribly on the highway that it was hell to get to 70 and stay there. The truck felt so heavy and wandered all over the road. It was Ok if I aired the tires to max inflation but it rode like a tank. if you ran over a dime, you could telll if it was heads or tails. If you let some of the air out, enough to smooth out some of the ride, it wandered and was just sloppy to drive. It fine with these 265's on it.
Mike,i have a 5.8 with 3.55's, and i have nooo problem with power. it doesnt squall tires real easy but i can pull anything i hook onto, i do have the 5-speed granny low though. i also have 33x12.5s on it so i would say if you lift it and put 35s on it you would be ok, especially if it has 3.73 or 4.10 gears. or 3.55 with a granny low tranny. just my 2c
