HI again,
I have 53+ shield shape lights on mine but that shouldn't make a difference. Here's a picture (Julie and her pictures!)
Mine is pointing down.
It really doesn't matter actually. If you want the light to be a little higher and don't mind that the bracket arm flows up instead of down, you could put it on the opposite side, upside down, and the light should still be level with the ground. I'm not sure if that would cause any interference with the back of the fender (should actually be better) or the back bumper on the license plate side.
