Hm. I'm going to be water proofing my wiring soon. I'm chopping large sections out of my wiring harness, I removed alot of un-needed stuff for my engine when it was on the engine stand. A/C and Emissions? Who needs that. But i'll tell you how it goes once I submerge the truck. I'll be sure to let everyone know where I went wrong or what worked well.
Truckin- My buddy put his blazer in a river testing out his snorkle awhile back as you heard, sucked in some water. Flushed out the engine with diesle and used oil a couple times then put new oil in it. Works fine. Just though i'd mention that regarding your sucking water into the intake thing.
I did notice a capped hole on my distributor cap. I'll do some water proofing and test it out.
AC sure is nice. Did it work before you started hackin off wires?
My truck didn't have AC, but it had the wiring for it. The truck that my engine came out of had A/C so I just put the pulley on without the A/C pump. And every bit of emissions is now gone. So i'm chopping all the wires off for it.
( And yes, everything works.. )
Most of the time in Washington it is below 60 degrees. And in the summer time the hottest it ever really gets is like 90 degrees, in which case I roll down my windows. :P
another thing you can use to seal up your distributer is a distributer sheild from a 80's 5L mustang... its rubber and works well not as permanent as silicone
what did you forget to silicone the air filter? just smear the entire air filter with silicone haha, that sucks, but good excuse for a fresh motor though. I have been seriously thinking about running my air intake into the cab because in minnesota it is illegal to have a snorkel, but I think I would get tired of listening to it moving air all the time, and in northern minnesota I would have to retain my heater haha
OUCH! Haha. What were you doing in water at five grand? Haha.
Well, what the big mud boggers do to seal things up is coffee cans, duct tape and zip lock bags.
heading out to help pull a buddy of mine out, i got into some think mud and down shifted and floored it.... Then i dropped off into a big hole, water over the hood, truck climbed out clanked and stopped. That was it, i did have it punched out 30 over, but due to time restraints did get to build the stroker i wanted.... But im working on that now!

On my Ranger, I sucked the air filter all the way up the intake tube to the MAF. Metal mesh on the Fram and all, sucked right out of the intake box. Happened when I stuck the passenger side into a bar ditch, and I held the engine at 4K+ so it wouldn't die again with the intake under water. The engine came through like a champ, no problems.
I would NOT recomend this anyone, I got lucky and didn't blow the engine (unlike Don there). But I personally think the filter save my engine.
ask the Department of natural resources, you actually can but it has to be within six inches of factory intake location so alot of help that is, for special events and DNR off road parks they are legal but on public streets and private property (where I wheel mostly) they can only be within six inches of factory
That sucks. Then again I suppose you could hide it.
The DNR brings the suck.
right, if it came in the cab, it would be hidden and would be close to legal, but the stock dentside air intake is below the battery so I think just having a regular air filter on it is technically breaking the law
