Just got a 02 FX4 and am looking for a bed cover. I want one that can lock and it easy to use. Any suggestions? What are pros and cons of different makers?
Undercover is great bang for your buck. Lightweight, easily removable, can stand on it, has a little 3 LED bedlight, but only comes in black. Price is $650 to $680.
Retractable covers that are good: Pace Edwards, Retrax, TruckCoversUSA (the best), RollNLock. Con is that you will lose a bit of space to the roll up canister. Prices are about $1,000 to $1,400.
Good hard folding cover: FoldACover
Covers made by Bak: I'm not a fan of their products.
My Retrax was vandalized on Halloween. They separated the plastic cover from the metal lip on the rear. Came apart very easily. I called Retrax and they are sending me a new rover cover under warranty and they said they have improved the design? Great company to work with, but I am not to comfortable with leaving valuables in the bed any longer.
The cover was already starting to show some fading from one summer in the sun. This was probably my fault since I didn't protect with a wax.
Thanks - I have had a Pace Edwards on a 01 GMC and it was continual problem. It was so bad I took it off. I am going to check out TruckCover USA - anyone have experience with them?
The only odd thing about the cover is that it has 4 instead of 2 drain tubes. It has two in the front and two at the rear.
It's made of double-walled aluminum and thus is very strong. It can hold over 500 pounds. The canister is VERY small at only 8" x 8". The slats are interlocked unlike Pace Edwards whose slats are connected by rubber.
Here's some pics of TruckCoversUSA:
To compare, here is Pace Edwards Full Metal Jacket:
