...So I'm taking the plunge. Got me a used xcal3 coming soon, and I have a few questions. First, I did search and didn't find what I was looking for. It was on an 06, so would my first step be to plug it in to my 04 to get strategy? Do the files from the 06 need to be removed first? Then download the SCT tunes of my choice, provided they're from the correct MY/strategy? Any input here would help, if you've been down this road. It is from another member here, and was purchased by him from Spartan. I know, I figured I probably would NOT put a tuner on my truck, but in talking to a neighbor on Halloween that has an X3 on his dually, well...I want to feel the power too! Can I run Agg.Tow @65HP as a starter file to "get used to it" even though I don't tow? Or should I just go Gen Econ @ 90HP? I'm thinking my 3 tunes will be Agg. tow( just in case...) Gen Econ or Mild St.Econ, and ASE but the 130 HP scares me. Are these files safe for "NO studs"? Thanks in advance for the replies, and feel free to pick on me for going to the "dark side"
You will have to go to sct website and down load the live load software. You are correct about getting your stradagity and down loading the correct tune from Spartan.
I have run most of the tunes from Spartan. Usually the ase tune is my daily driver. However I am now running the stock pluse tune. It only states 20 hp. It feels a lot more than that. I am running it because I am having issues with my truck. (It is puking but has been doing tht before I ever run the tunner.) It is going in for studs and gaskets in 2 weeks.
You won't be dissapointed.
Also on another note. My truck doesn't like the max economy. My friend with anoter 04 has run it and his truck didn't like it either.
Iwasn't too interested with the max econ tune, as I only drive my truck 1-2x a week since I have a company truck. I'll probably try the Gen Econ tune first to see how she likes it. Hell, 90 HP should be quite a difference for a truck I think runs good like it is. I just can't resist the temptation and the opportunity presented itself, so... Here I go! Thanks for the reply!- Tim
