Carb hesitation when excellarating

1987 F-350 Flatbed, 460 engine/auto trans. with a Holley 4180 four barrel. Had carb rebuilt 7 years ago and they stripped the fuel filter threads into the front carb bowl. I started stalling at red traffic lights every now and then but it would start again. Went to a junk yard and found the exact carb. pulled the front bowl off with float and excell pump. installed it on my carb. Now it hesitates when starting off in drive but comes back if it does not stall. Is this a float bowl adjustment problem or excellerator pump problem?

Thanks for any opinions

Could be a low float level, but I suspect the accelerator pump is out of adjustment. I would also check the check ball in the pump housing. If it is stuck, it will pump fuel back into the bowl instead of the passage to the discharge nozzle.
With the throttle wide open, there should be .015 of movement of the diaphram arm left if checking with a feeler gauge between the adjusting nut on the linkage and the arm.

I'll check both tomarrow. Where is this check ball in the pump housing located? Remember I only replaced the front bowl from a carb I got at junk yard. I plan on rebuilding the one I got at the junk yard but need this one installed on truck for work. I do home remodeling and this truck is perfect for this...

i'd have to go with accelerator pump also. lxman is right with the .015-.020" because if bottomed out it could wear your pump or bind its linkage.

The check ball you talk about is that the one under the Excell. Pump diaphram? If so it's moving fine and not stuck.
