Don't know if this question has been asked before because I am usually on the diesel forum so here goes. I have a crack in the plastic directional signal on the side mirror on my 2003 F250. Can you get just the plastic from Ford and if so, how do you remove the cracked one? I sure hope it's replaceable. Thanks in advance for any help guys.
Bad news Dude. I had a birdstrike take out the driver's side amber marker too. I had to wind up buying the whole back cover....they don't sell just the amber lens part. Mine's a King Ranch so I just replaced the whole back cover and how have the original back as a spare.
I've heard of guys buying the smoked lenses...that might be an option for you.
That sounds like Ford but at least I don't have to buy the whole mirror. Do you remember how much the back cover cost? How easy is it to replace the back cover?
It's gonna depend on whether or not your back cover is paintable. My King Ranch has the green covers and the new one comes a primer gray color.
If yours has the pebbled black cover, it may be cheaper than mine was since they don't need to be painted.
Between the part and the paint job on it I had about 200 bucks in the cover.
Do a search, one of the guys had step by step instructions and photos on how to remove and replace the mirror cover.
A couple of notes that stuck in my mind, first adjust the mirror tilt all the way towards the cab...that will expose the plastic tabs to remove the back cover. Second note, be gentle with the tabs...I understand they do break easily. There are several tabs...you just depress the tab and push back in that area a little and then move on to the next tab until the whole back is loose. They you simply unplug the harness and you should be able to remove the whole back.
To re-install, just do the reverse, plug the harness up, and carefully line up the tabs and push the back on till the tabs click and lock.
