What flywheels will work on the 390's? I heard that you can use a 429 or 460. Is this true? Using a 4 speed 435 NP. Also I am going to rebuild the engine also. What is the best cam to use with the rocker arm set ups these motors have? I am new to the FE's. I am going to get steve christs book.
Yes, a 429/460 wheel will bolt right on and work fine. The 390 is internally balanced, so the neutral wheel will work fine. The only problem arises is when you have a 428(externally balanced).
I run .531 lift cam on my stock rockers(adjustables) in my 390. Probably get away with a bit more, but this motor is a "I had it, so I used it" motor. If you plan on non-adjustables, then you'll have to deal with pushrod lengths to get proper preload on hyd. cam. I run solid lifters in my stuff.
