This isn't really a big problem but it makes me wonder. I bought my truck in August and it has 2 tanks. I use the front primarily but every other week or so I'll switch it over to the back tank to go to work (30 miles) and back. I don't keep an accurate track of miles but at 14 miles a gallon and a 23 gallon tank I should have run the back tank dry back in September.
Occasionally when driving on the back tank the truck sputters a bit and won't hold acceleration which I think is because of bad gas quality.
But here's my real question: I've never put gas in this tank, and the only time I've tried I filled the front tank first and the back tank wouldn't take any gas more than about 1/4 gallon. I know there's a possibility that the vent is closed and won't let it breathe to take gas but...
1) Has anyone ever had one tank seep into the other (if that's even possible)
2) Have I stumbled on some sort of Gas Golden Egg here? The gauge will drop to about 3/4 full if I drive on the back tank for 60 miles but then after restin' a spell it's full again!
I kinda wanna know and also don't want to fix it...
I assume from your gallery this is an '86 truck and fuel injected. If so there is a fuel return line from the fuel rail to both tanks. It is not uncommon for for a check valve to go bad and return the fuel to the wrong tank. When running on the front tank you might be refilling the rear tank.
