AOD v E4OD
AOD v E4OD
Found out I have an AOD in my 1996 Eddie Bauer 302, not E4OD like I thought. 151,000 miles.
So basically the AOD = C4 + 1 gear and E4OD = C6 + 1 gear?
Seems like a lot of posts about E4OD problems but not much about AOD's. Any good/ bad experiences?

Yep, AOD-E

apparently more like an FMX than a C4.

IIRC, Ford stopped using the AOD in 1993 when they switched to the AODE. The AOD was not based on the C4, but the A4LD was (C3 with overdrive). The AOD was based on the old FMX (1968-1981).
My 1993 Mustang GT had an AOD in it. I absolutely hated it. It now has a T5
.
But an AOD (and AODE) can be built to be almost as strong as a built C6.

I've got a full manual valve body AOD with a Bradco Convertor in my '90 GT. It sits behind a 408W that is putting 477rwhp down. They're great transmissions if you know how to build them right. My girlfriend's '95 GT has the AODE with the j-mod done to it. It has survived 17,000 miles behind a s-trimmed 306. Sometime this spring I plan on building my E40D into a full manual valve body for the truck. I'll more than likely build a console with a B&M Hammer shifter and pushbutton OD.
