The oak tree won

I was backing into tight spot with my CC at the dentist's yesterday. Right in between a Volvo and a Lexus. The area behind the parking lot was wooded and heavily shaded. I never took notice of how close the BIG oak tree was to the parking lot curb. So once I was straight in the spot I was backing up, riding the brake, waiting to for my tires to hit the curb. THUD! my rear bumper found the tree. It hit just to the right of the license plate/step cut out. It was quit a jolt. The right half of the bumper dropped slightly and rolled slightly forward. The left half of the bumper stayed level (no roll) but elevated slightly just short of touching the bottom of the fender cut out.

I was so pissed. Im thinking about going back there with my chainsaw just to make myself feel better.
Im going to stop by a friends body shop later to see if he can straighten it out or do I have to buy a new bumper.

If you do have to buy a new bumper it would be a great time to upgrade to a 08 bumper. Sorry to hear about the damage, I hate it when that stuff happens. If you cut the tree down you might be able to use it as fire wood.

This is why I never use the curb to park. If you are backing up that puts the *** of the truck way over the curb. Just a bad habit to get into.

Sorry to hear about it!

That's why I got the back up sensors. They have saved my ***, literally, a number of times.

Agreed! I always keep my 45lb pintle hitch on for moments like those! If someone were to hit me from behind, they aint getting nowhere near the bumper unless they are coming pretty quick!

Well I just got back from the body shop. He basically said to replace it or just leave it alone if its not doing damage to anything else. I don't think I can leave it. I'll have to start exploring rear bumper options.

Yup. I also leave my hitch in place. I've had 1 person already bump into it on my F250. Saved my bumper. I had a benz hit me when I had a K5 blazer and the hitch ripped the entire front bumper off of the benz. lol.

I can't tell you how many times that bumper hitch has saved my rear bumper from collapsing when backing up to the co-op's loading bay.

I'm thinking about putting on the '08 bumper as suggested above. One of my snowmobiling buddies is a ford tech and can get it for me at cost. I'll get it from him when we go riding. I'll probably wait and put it on in the spring. I would imagine it just bolts right up, no mods needed.

A drunk idiot at a bar was too close to the parked cars, hit my back bumper as he passed by. scratched and slightly raised my bumper, but it ripped his fender off, creased the entire side of his car, and blew out his side window leaving his girlfriend covered in glass! F-250....1 car.....0.

ME TOO! I'm not sure if I can ever park without them again . Sad, I know, but they really do help put you exactly as far back as you can go without the big smash-a-roo!
