I am very curious as to what a clock spring is and what it does, if a clock spring goes bad what will stop working (without a doubt).
I really want to thank everyone involved with this forum because I have learned sooo much about my truck and have been able to fix tons of problems, I hope I learn enough to help others on this forum with their problems.
A clockspring is a sliding contact that connects the electrical functions on the steering wheel with the steering column. Things it can control: horn, cruise control switches, air bag, etc.
The clockspring is mounted on the steering column, behind the steering wheel. It provides a continuous electrical path from the driver air bag module to the restraints control module (RCM).
The air bag sliding contact provides the electrical interface between the steering column wiring and the speed control switches in the steering wheel.
The air bag sliding contact provides the electrical interface between the steering column wiring and the the steering wheel pad horn switch
Any of the above items could be bad without all of them being bad. What do you have that doesn't work?
I have been having problems with my cruise control but i'm almost certain that it is due to the famous SCDS recall. I have noticed some posts state that a bad clock spring can also cause the problem. Today I bought the "brake repair kit" but have not installed it. I guess I am trying to get the info in case it does'nt work. I am always trying to think ahead.
