Smile Front leveling kit question

Hi everyone, Looking for some info on front end leveling kits for a ford F250 2004 crew cab V8 gas engine with the fX and 8’ bed. Do the leveling kits add to the front GVRW right now mine is 4800 and looking or need at least 5200, or should I just get new leaf springs? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have an '02 diesel CC LB and run a plow in the winter. My truck has the camper package so the rear sat a solid 3" higher. I went with a Rough Country leveling kit which is new springs and shocks, upgraded to gas shocks all around with a dual shock in the front, one gas, one oil. The truck doesn't really drop now with the plow so I would have to say it raised the front GVWR.

Hope that helps.

Leveling kits typically just move the springs away from the frame and do not alter the stock spring rates. If you need heavier weight carrying capabilities I would suggest getting new spring packs. Basically the hanger kits like fabtech are the equivalent to blocks for the rear (only much safer.)

Overall though, higher rate front springs and good shocks will not boost the capabilities that much. The front's weight is fairly set and only does a portion of the loads carrying. If you need to boost it alot, I would suggest front springs and roadmaster's active suspension system for the rear. The 400lbs you need might, you might get by with just the fronts. However I would highly suggest bilstien shocks to go with them.

Seems those lift shackles would be very easy to replicate. Hmm I may have a new weekend project

Hey thanks for the info, What plow are you using? Thats why i need to up front springs. I want to put a western pro (710pounds) or pro plus (830 pounds) on, Western is telling me i can only do the pro. If I up the front leaf springs (I think next size is 5200) I can do the pro plus. I love to do the pro plus for a more heavy duty plow, but dont want to kill my truck. Thanks again.

I am running a SNO-Way plow which has the lexan blade but it also has the pump, all the rams and solenoids attached to the frame that that has the blade. When I remove my plow (5 minutes max) there is nothing on my truck except a crossmember with 3 attaching points, no motor, pump, rams, chains, nothing; so it looks really clean.

ReAx says a "Leveling Kit" typically moves the springs away from the frame, that is true if your leveling kit is a spring pack type or a shackle type, but "Leveling Kit" is such a generic term. My Leveling Kit came with new heavier springs which in fact did increase my front load rating and it made all the difference in the world on how the truck handles the additional weight of the plow. When you stick a plow on the front you are not only adding the actual weight but it is compounded because it is cantilevered out in front of the truck putting extra stress on everything when it is suspended. It would be nice if you could keep it down all the time but that is not practical.

Hope that helps and is as clear as mud.

Good Luck
Dave

I'd recommend the 5200lb springs or the 6000lb springs from Ford.

If you want/need additional height beyond that, then look into a leveling kit.

I run a 9'2" Boss Power-V XT (842lbs) on my 2007 F-350 PSD and upgraded to 7000lb springs to handle the plow.

But, since you have the 5.4 the 6000lb springs would be good IMO.
