I just bought a 95 F250 4x4 460 on Sat and was gonna fill it up today but i was wondering if anyone around here knows if it is necessary to run premium fuel due to the hypertech chip. Its is hypertech part # 458231 if that makes any difference. I have a feeling the previous owner was NOT using premium will I notice any gains? I called hypertech as I typed this post and they said yes they do recommend premium. What have you guys experienced with it? Waste of money, or noticable gain?
The chip doesn't change your compression ratio so I would say, no.
Once again bear another ignorant answer.
Yes use premium, those chips advance the timing and lean out the mixture. Both of these changes can cause a ping/spark knock with cheap fuel. You may not need premium but start there. Then try half a tank of mid-grade, then a full tank, then half cheap, and so on. While paying attention to the motor and listening for knock.(It sounds like a quiet deisel or marbles in the engine) If it knocks you gotta step up in fuel or remove the hypertech unit.
