Also google How to rebuild a BW 1356 transfer case
WOW! I guess I am under-pricing mine!
Oh well, I replied to your PM, 68 ranger, and my quote in that PM still stands...
BTW, I'm not sure whether yours is the 1356 or the 1345, but I was thinking the one I have is a 1345. It may be the 1356, I just don't remember - I'd have to pull it out of storage to say for sure. IIRC the biggest difference is the housing (1345 is cast steel, 1356 is cast aluminum I believe).
Anyway, it doesn't really matter much since they are 100% interchangeable. This one also comes with a WORKING push-down-to-shift style shifter on it. From what I gather these shifters are pretty hard to find in working condition and fetch a pretty good price all by themselves.
If you have a different style shifter, you can swap yours onto this t-case, no problem. I didn't want the push-down-to-shift style so when I swapped mine (part of my ZF-5 conversion) last summer I put my old direct-shift style shifter on the new t-case. Bolted right up...
lol i been there when i bought my truck it had no 4 gear i have a 4 speed i was on the freeway go 50 mph all the y watching y temp gage worying i was cooking my enginge
Your truck should have the 1356, the 1345 might be better, I don't know.
BTW I think the S47 and S42 are differnt gear ratio/versions of the ZF-5 that you have (if yours is a 5-spd., I can't remember).
CheaperJeeper knows more about this stuff than I do but when I first got my truck I would have been confused by the S47 S42 thing, thought I'd simplify it.
Joe, you got a 220-mile trip from Concord to Portola where his truck is now, then there's another like 35 miles from Portola to Quincy where he lives. That's a goot 500-mile round trip for ya, assuming you average 15mpg you'll burn like $120 just for fuel...
The S42 was available with two gear sets: 1 -- 4.65 -- 5.72 2 -- 2.60 -- 2.94 3 -- 1.53 -- 1.61 4 -- 1.00 -- 1.00 5 -- .077 -- .076 R -- 4.35 -- 5.24
The S47 was available with three different sets of ratios, 1 -- 5.72 -- 5.08 -- 4.14 2 -- 2.94 -- 2.61 -- 2.37 3 -- 1.61 -- 1.53 -- 1.42 4 -- 1.00 -- 1.00 -- 1.00 5 -- 0.76 -- 0.77 -- 0.77 R -- 5.24 -- 4.66 -- 3.79
HOLY CRAP!
Talk about possibilities.
I like to have my choices more limited so I don't have to think about it so much. LOL
That's what I like about my first-gen Dodge-Cummins, if you want it half the time you have to make it. If it is available there's usually only one choice.
