My E40D AOD transmission in my '97 E350 extended ClubWagon is going out, really harsh vibrating/sound when shifts into 2nd, otherwise still very smooth.
The problem is that the van has 250k miles on it and I've been trying to find a tranny from a wrecking yard.....LOTS of E40D's out there for my model and year but the coding FOLLOWING the E40D is where I'm having problems. The numbers on the aluminum part tag on the drivers side read F7UPGA. I'm guessing that the F7 designates 1997? And the other numbers may be bellhousing? shaft length? other variables depending on the engine/trans bellhousing and/or other differences. I have seen several IDENTICAL vans, 1997-1998's with the 6.8 AOD trans. My question is do I need to get the identical matching post numbers or can I use an E40D from any 6.8L '97-'98 E350? Thanks in advance for ANY help I can get.....
