I have a 96 f150 4x4 with a 302 that has seen better days. I can get a wrecked 93 f150 two wheel drive with a good 351. would it be a big hassle to put the 351 in the 96?
How about the computer? I don’t know much! But I know the 93 isn’t OBD 2. This truck has been a pain; motor has a noise that goes away at about 1500-2000 RPM in park. Was told it could be lifters, pulled valve covers and everything seemed good and the noise doesn’t sound like a knock, more like a clacking sound. If I ever getting it running then I’ll figure out why dash trim says XL and fender emblems say XLT.
Doesn't matter what computer is in the '93, all that matters is the one in your '96 and that's a mass air computer which will self calibrate to the bigger motor.
Both motors use the same tranny bolt pattern so no issue there. What tranny is in the '93? The 5.8 has different balance than the 5.0 so you'll need the 28oz flexplate for the E4OD tranny, if the '93 has the same tranny you're good.
All the sensors are in the same location so there will be no splicing necessary at all. The '93 motor won't have the crank position sensor the '96 motor has though so you'll need to find a 5.8 balancer with the exciter ring. I think that's literally the only difference.
