Hey guys. I have the 97 Explorer 5.0 with the AWD and the 4R70W tranny. I'm having a slight issue with what I think is the tranny but I'm not sure. Its not a super big problem and one that I'm trying to figure for the sole purpose of piece of mind and thats it. I want to know if I'm basically going to need a new clutch or a whole new transmission.... anyway.... the problem is as follows.
Driving at say 60 mph (conservative estimate ) and I change lanes either to pass someone or just plain step on it and go faster, the RPM's rev as it shifts up to accomadate me mashing the pedal but the truck doesnt hardly go faster for a second or 2, definitely a noticeable delay and one that shouldn't be there. The RPM's go to like 3500-4500 and sometimes 5000, which is consistent with W.O.T. for my truck but it doesn't want to take off like it should. I've read somewhere that its either the clutch/flywheel or the whole dang transmission. I just want to know which one. How can I tell? Is there a 90/10 split that its either the clutch or the tranny or is it 50/50?
i thought all transmissions have clutches and flywheels, its just that some are manually worked (manuals), and some are all contained inside the automatic transmission (automatic).
